Musica Sacra (Baroque Ensemble)

Founded: 1980 - Dublin, Ireland

Musica Sacra was founded in 1980, with the aim of specialising in music of the German Baroque period. They have remained true to this aim over the years, with performances of J.S. Bach Cantatas and Masses, as well as works by composers such as Heinrich Schütz, Samuel Scheidt and Georg Philipp Telemann. However. they have shown their versatility in concert performances of works as varied as those by Antonio Vivaldi, George Frideric Handel, Purcell, Gabriel Fauré and Bruckner.

Musica Sacra and the Camerata Singers have worked together on many occasions, notably in the very highly acclaimed performance of J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232) in 1987. The two groups performed together in Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610 at the Royal Hospital Kilmainharn on April 10, 1988.
