The Chilean counter-tenor singer and medical surgeon, José Andrés Patricio Muñoz Albornoz, joined at the age of 7 the Coro de Voces Blancas of the Curepto commune, where he began to take singing classes with the teacher Guillermo Morales, and also learned to play the piano. Thanks to that experience he fell in love with choral singing. Thus began his journey in the world of art. Over time he began to participate in regional singing events, representing the Escuela Pedro Antonio González de Curepto, he also played the piano and was part of the church choir. When he graduated from basic education he knew he wanted to continue cultivating singing, so he entered the Liceo Abate Molina de Talca, where he knew there was a choir directed by his teacher Hector Guerrero, who had a long career and great recognition at a national and international level. There he confirmed his taste for choral singing and he performed as a tenor soloist from the time he entered until he graduated from high school. During that time, he was also part of the Coro Adagio, directed by Professor Cristina Ojeda, and at the age of 16 he joined the Camerata Vox Lumini, performing on important stages in Chile, Ecuador, Argentina and Peru.
During 2020, José Andrés Muñoz participated in the vocal clinic for counter-tenors of Juventus Lyrica, taught by the teacher Adriana Mastrángelo (Argentina). He has performed concerts both in Chile and abroad, interpreting chamber repertoire, oratorio and opera by composers such as J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel, Antonio Vivaldi, W.A. Mozart, L.v. Beethoven. In 2022, he is the beneficiary of the Scholarship of the Corporación de Amigos del Teatro Municipal de Santiago, an opportunity in which he was the only male and counter-tenor to receive a scholarship in all of Chile.
José Andrés Muñoz combines medical studies with his artistic career. In 2022, he was a 6th year medical intern, so it has been a challenge to be able to divide my time between hospital care work and singing. He is a firm believer that good organization is the fundamental pillar to be able to develop oneselvf in the areas that matter to him. In previous years he was supported by the Escuela de Medicina de la Utalca and they gave him permission to perform even outside of Chile. During that year it has been difficult for him to travel to his classes in Santiago with his teachers Evelyn Ramirez and Gonzalo Cuadra, but he distributed his rotations to have time to sing between internships. He has also participated in the Coro de la Universidad de Talca, directed by Paula Elgueta. His plans include continuing my singing studies outside of Chile, but never leaving medicine aside. He thinks that the best way to combine both things would be to specialize as an otorhinolaryngologist, which would give him many tools to be able to work with singers and treat the various pathologies they may have. |
