The Luxembourgean pianist, Jean Muller, is the son of Gary Muller, a piano teacher. He was only 6 when he had first piano lessons at the Conservatoire de Luxembourg. At age 15, he spent a semester with Teofils Bikis in Riga before continuing his studies in Brussels, Paris and Munich. Among his teachers were Gerhard Oppitz and Michael Schäfer. He also received guidance from Anne Queffélec, Leon Fleisher, Janos Starker and Fou Ts'ong.
Jean Muller has performed widely across Europe and beyond both in concert halls and at music festivals. Muller is a pianist with extraordinary artistic genuineness. The specialized press underlines the astonishing mixture of authenticity and originality, which sometimes even gives the impression that the composer himself is at the piano. Due to his intellectual, technical and emotional mastery Muller is performing a wide range of repertoire, while maintaining a focus on L.v. Beethoven, Frédéric Chopin and Franz Liszt, his favorite composers. In addition to solo performances, he frequently plays with the Bavarian State Orchestra, the Münchner Symphoniker and the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg. He has worked with many renowned conductors including Frédéric Chaslin, Zubin Mehta and Bramwell Tovey. He has performed all of L.v. Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas in concert.
Jean Muller has received several international awards. In 1999 at Bratislava, Muller was a laureate of the Tribune Internationale des Jeunes Interprètes (TIJI) organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) on behalf of UNESCO. In 2004, he received the first prize at three French piano competitions in Arcachon, Vanves (Jean Françaix) and Brive (Francis Poulenc). In 2007, Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg elevated Jean Muller to the rank of Knight of the Civil and Military Order of Merit of Adolph of Nassau in gratitude for his performances during official state visits.
Jean Muller has made numerous recordings - including the complete L.v. Beethoven Piano Sonatas -, which received exceptional acclaim by the critics. His CD "Chopin Recital" was given the Gramophone's Critic Choice award and the piano critic Bryce Morrison, stated: "Backed by a savage technical voltage, he lifts you far above studio conditions or the polished if politely impersonal expertise too familiar from the competition circuit." The president of Concours Poulenc jury, Jean-Claude Pennetier, stated: "Everything is there: fingers, head and heart." His recordings have also earned excellent reviews in the specialized press such as Pizzicato, Piano Magazine and Arte-the CD Selection. Following the tremendous success of "Chopin Recital", Jean Muller is undertaking a worldwide promotion tour in 2013. |
