The Canadsian pianist, Mari-Elizabeth Morgen, was a pupil of Gordon Hallett at the Royal Conservatory of Music, finishing in 1962. She won the concerto competition for three consecutive summers at the National Music Camp, Interlochen, Michigan. She studied at the University of Toronto with Jacques Abram and Pierre Souvairan, receiving her Artist Diploma in 1967. In 1968 she won first prize in the J.S. Bach International Competition in Washington, DC, with an unprecedented mark of 100 per cent. She was the recipient of several Canada Council bursaries. While studying at the Juilliard School with Ilona Kabos and Rosina Lhévinne, she won (1970) the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York. The award included a Town Hall debut November 23, 1970. She received from Juilliard B MUS in 1970, and M SC in 1971.
Following her studies, Mari-Elizabeth Morgen appeared widely in Canada and the USA in concert and on radio and TV as a recitalist and with orchestras. In 1972 she moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she still resided in 1991. |
