The Japanese harpsichordist and synthesizer-player, Shoko Miyao, studied as a child playing the piano. In 1967 she began playing the harpsichord with Kiyoko Nisikawa in Tokyo. In 1969 she went to Vienna to study with Eta Harich-Schneider, and in 1971 she studied with Karl Richter in Munich. In 1974 she won a scholarship to study in Bratislava; studied with Zuzana Ruzickova and Robert Grac. She also took part at the International Mastercourse for Music in Zürich.
Shoko Miyao gave her first public recital in 1972. She has played with many orchestras including the Slovak Chamber Orchestra under Bohdan Warchal; the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra under Kikuo Sato; the Miyagi Philharmonic Orchestra under Kurt Reder; the New Vivaldi Ensemble under Masaaki Hayakawa. She has also played recitals with Kiyoko Nishikawa, Zuzana Ruzickova, Jean- Pierre Rampal, Robert Manasse, Milos Jurkovic, Hana Stolfova, Marian Banda. In 1988 she took part in the Summer Music Festival Piestany in Czechoslovakia. In 1989 she appeared at the Bratislava International Music Festival.
At presents she devotes her artistic skills to the synthesizer. In 1995 she took it up and played a very successful experimental concert at Tokyo Denki University under the supervision of prof. Hiromi Kawase. As of 1999 she continues discovering the possibilities of this instrument. |
