The Belgian tenor, Hendrik Mispelon, obtained his Diploma Higher 3G in Guitar from Academie voor Podiumkunsten Gent (1997-2000); his Secondary education diploma in Greek-Latin from Don Boscocollege Zwijnaarde (2001-2007); his Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin Language and Literature Grade sufficiently from Universiteit Gent (2007-2010); his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature Grade sufficiently from Universiteit Gent (2007-2010); his Master of Arts degree in Latin Language and Literature with distinction from Universiteit Gent (2010-2011); his Master of Arts degree in English Linguistics and Literature with Distinction from Universiteit Gent (2010-2011); his Master of Arts Diploma of Latin-English teacher from Universiteit Gent (2011-2013). He is currently studying fror his first Master of Music degree in Singing at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven (LUCA School of Arts) (since 2015; expected gaduation: 2020). He studies with Catrin Wyn-Davies. Other important voice teachers are Philip Defrancq, Zayra Velazquez, José Pizarro and Stephan Adriaens.
As a soloist, Hendrik Mispelon has already performed the roles of Monostatos in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Nero in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, trio in Leonard Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti, Obadiah in Felix Mendelssohn's Eliah, Evangelist in J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) and also sang as a soloist in George Frideric Handel's Messiah. Furthermore, the Lieder repertoire is by no means unknown to him, with Robert Schumann's closest concert performance Dichterliebe. He has collaborated with, among others, David Miller, Akatsu Makoto, Ignace Michiels and Ivan Meylemans for the performance of some of the aforementioned works.
Hendrik Mispelon also has a lot of experience in ensembles and choirs. He is a member of the professional ensembles SWARA vocal ensemble, Ghent Singers, Gents Universitair Koor and Consensus Vocalis (since October 2019). SWARA, directed by Ivan Yohan, focuses on contemporary a-cappella music with works by Ligeti, Lauridsen, Whitacre, Mäntyjärvi, Rautavaara, Tormis, etc. With Ghent Singers, Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges conduc ted by Otto Tausk is one of the most recently performed works. He has also collaborated with Currende (Director: Erik Van Nevel), and was a member of Octopus Kamerkoor en Barokorkest ensemble (Director: Bart Van Reyn) and GUK (Director: Joris Derder). Works performed include W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, G.F. Handel's Messiah, Requiem by both Gabriel Fauré and Verdi, Carmina Burana, Child of our time.
Some of his future projects are the Requiem by Johannes Brahms, conducted by Bart Naessens, Rainbow project, a composition for 8 singers, with Swara, and the Missa in Es, Hob. XXII: 4 from Haydn conducted by Geert Vromans.
In addition, Hendrik Mispelon has worked at various institutes as Latin/English teacher. |
