The American choral conductor and organist, Matthew Middleton, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Organ from the University of Texas at Austin (2003); his Master of Music degree in Music Education from Boston University (2008); his Associate diploma from American Guild of Organists (2010); his Master of Music degree in Organ (2011) and Doctor of Music degree in Organ and Music Education (2018) from Indiana University. He studied organ repertoire with Janette Fishell and Frank Speller, and organ improvisation with Bruce Neswick and Jeffrey Smith. His awards include: 2nd Prize at Schoenstein Competition in Organ Accompaniment (2011); Semifinalist in interpretation at Grand Prix de Chartres, France (2012); 2nd Prize at John R. Rodland Memorial Scholarship Competition (2013); Quarterfinalist at Internationaler Rheinberger Wettbewerb für Orgel, Liechtenstein (2013).
Matthew Middleton has performed throughout the USA and UK; at Bristol, Chichester, Lincoln, Norwich, St. David’s, and Worcester Cathedrals in the UK; at the National Cathedral, National Shrine, Loyola University Chicago, The Princeton Festival 2013, and elsewhere in the USA.; and as organ or piano soloist with the symphony orchestras of Indiana University, Gonzaga University, Cameron University, and Missoula, Montana.
Matthew Middleton worked as organ scholar at Bristol Cathedral and St Mary Redcliffe Church in England (2003-2004); as a music teacher in Cairo, Egypt (2004-2005); as a music director in Bethlehem, Palestine (2006-2008); as the assistant organist at Trinity Episcopal Church in Indianapolis (2009-2013); and as Associate Director of Music at Christ Church Cathedral in Indianapolis (2014-2018). Since 2018, he is the Organist and Choir Director at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Lexington, Kentucky,.
Matthew Middleton is the author of Choral Accompaniment at the Organ, a website and pedagogical method for organists. His recordings have aired on KUT Austin, WUOL Louisville, WWFM Trenton, and on the nationally-syndicated public radio show, With Heart and Voice. He can be heard weekly in broadcasts of cathedral services on WICR Indianapolis. |
