The American (lyric-spinto) soprano, Florence Mesler, obtained Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, Washington. There she studied with Dr. Charles
Fisher, B.M. - Eastman Doctorate - Union Theological, with private study at Juilliard and Aspen
Florence Mesler, a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, The National Association of Teachers of Singing and Mortar Board, is in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities and is currently (as of 1971) a Professor of Voice at the University of Washington - Seattle.
Florence Mesler has continued her professional vocal career as an oratorio soloist with the Seattle Chorale, the Convention of the American Guild of Organists, various universities, and numerous church and civic performances, She has been guest artists with many symphonies, including the Seattle Youth Symphony under the direction of Vilem Sikol and the Scandinavian Festival Symphony under the direction of John Sundsten. In 1968, she played the lead in the West Coast premiere of the Cavalli opera L’Ormindo given by the University Festival Opera Company under the guest stage directorship of Roy Lazarus - Oberlin and under the musical direction of .Dr. Stanley Chapple. As a community concert artist, she gives the following programmes: German Lieder, Songs from Scandinavia, Contemporary American Songs, Classical Sacred Solos, Songs of the Mediterranean, Songs by Northwest Composers, and Operatic Arias.
Florence Mesler’s affinity for Scandinavian literature derives partially from her family background” her paternal grandparents were from Sweden, and her maternal grandparents from Norway. |
