The Dutch organist and pianist, Gerrie Meijers, studied organ under Johan van Dommele and Hans van Nieuwkoop, and piano under Arthur Hartong and Jacques Hendriks, at the Stedelijk Conservatorium in Arnhem, graduating with honours in teaching and performance. She has an extensive practice as a counselor with a clear preference for the vocal genre in the broadest sense. She also studied song accompaniment with Tan Crone.
Gerrie Meijers is in demand as a piano accompanist in a wide range of vocal genres from solo song to large-scale choral works. She performs in duos with the singers Wieke Ubels (soprano), Cecile Roovers (alto/mezzo and actress) and Annette Stallinga (alto), and in a four-hand keyboard duo with the organist and pianist Christine Kamp. She is organist of the Remonstrantse Kerk in Haarlem, pianist with KCOV-Excelsior in Amsterdam, Het Hoofdstadkoor, Min Ghesellen and Het Bachkoor Holland (Bach Choir Holland) and other ensembles. She has worked regularly as a freelancer with Xynix-opera and Stichting Vocaal Talent Nederland.
Gerrie Meijers gives recitals in her homeland and abroad and has made a number of radio broadcasts and CD recordings. She was a prize-winner at international organ competitions in Toulouse and Nijmegen, and was awarded the silver medal by the Société Academique Arts-Sciences-Lettres for her contribution to French music. |
