The German soprano, Maria Meckel, received her first singing lessons from the Potsdam soprano Christine Wolff. She studied at Evangelisches Gymnasium Hermannswerder in Potsdam, and at TU Dresden. She studied singing/opera and music education at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden with Regine Köbler (2003-2009) .
Since then Maria Meckel has worked as a freelance singer, mainly in church music. She is particularly involved in the field of ensemble singing and early music, which she performs with the Susato Ensemble and other ensembles specializing in historical music practice, including the Dresdner Kammerchor (Director: Hans-Christoph Rademann). After participating in several world premieres (Wilfried Krätzschmar's Schlüsseloper and Eun Sun Lee's Vorfall in Kwangju - co-operation between Hochschule für Musik Dresden and Semperoper), she made her debut in May 2011 at the Wittener Tagen für neue Kammermusik. In 2007 and 2010 she sang the role of Blonde in W.A. Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Choriner Opernsommer, and in 2008-2009 the Queen of the Night and Papagena in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte conducted by Dieter Reuscher. In addition, she performs regularly as a soloist in operetta concerts. She also teaches at Heinrich-Zille-Schule Radeburg. She married Martin Schreyer on April 21, 2017 and currently lives in Dresden. |
