Hailey McAvoy (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: December 16, 1994 - Natick, Massachusetts,, USA

The American mezzo-soprano, Hailey McAvoy, graduated from Graduated from Montrose School in Medfield, Massachusetts in 2013. There she was selected to perform in the highly selective vocal programs at The Tanglewood Institute; Franz Schubert Institute, Austria; All-State and All-Eastern musical competitions. She obtained her Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York (2013-2018), where she pursued double major in vocal performance and musical arts. At Eastman, she performed on both the opera and concert stage, singing the roles of Zosha in Out of Darkenss by Heggie, Mrs. Soames in Our Town, The Abbess in Suor Angelica, Mother Superior in Mese Mariano, and The 6th Spirit in Cendrillon. In addition to opera, she appeared as a soloist in Haydn's Theresienmesse, J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), Luciano Berio's O King, Danyew’s Alcott Songs, and several premieres in collaboration with Eastman’s composition department. As a young recitalist, she particularly loves German and American art song, and is working to champion the music of little-known American composer Hub Miller, whose songs she is studied extensively at Eastman. Since 2018, she studies with Sanford Sylvan at Bard Conservatory Graduate Vocal Arts Program in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.

Outside of singing, Hailey McAvoy loves philosophy, poetry, and nature walks. She currently lives in Boston, Massachusetts.
