The Canadian (Acadian) baritone, Dion Mazerolle, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Performance, General from Université de Moncton; and his Master of Music degree in Music Performance, General from Université de Montréal (1995-1997).
Dion Mazerolle received critical acclaim for his "fine, resonant voice, an iron fist in a velvet glove”as Lord Cecil in Benjamin Britten’s Gloriana with Toronto’s Voicebox: Opera in concert. Recent opera credits include the Mandarin in Edmonton Opera’s production of Turandot, and a début with the Canadian Opera company in the role of F. X. Lemieux in their powerful 2017 production of Louis Riel, which was also performed at the National Arts Centre and the Opera de Quebec. He also stepped in at the last minute to star in George Frideric Handel’s Apollon et Daphne, with Festival Montreal Baroque.
Dion Mazerolle has sung with Opera de Montreal (1998-2002); Opera in Concert in Toronto (2014-2017); Edmonton Opera (2015-2017); Pacific Opera Victoria (2017); Canadian Opera Company (March-May 2017); Opera de Quebec (since July 2017). His operatic roles include the Mayor in Janacek’s Jenufa directed by Atom Egoyan with Pacific Opera Victoria, Dick Deadeye in HMS Pinafore with Edmonton Opera, and Dancaire in Carmen with the Opera de Quebec. In 2018, He sang the role of Avadoro in Manuscrit trouve a Saragosse (Evangelista), with Société de musique contemporaine du Quebec.
Dion Mazerolle has appeared in concert with the Elmer Iseler Singers (J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248)) and debuted with the Newfoundland Symphony in L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. He sang the bass arias in a semi-staged performance of J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) with Chorus Niagara, Christus in J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) with Musica Orbium, and the bass arias in J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion (BWV 245)with the Grand Philharmonic Choir/Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra.
Dion Mazerolle begins the 2018-2019 season as Johann in Opera de Quebec’s Werther, followed by Germont in La Traviata, with Société d'Arts Lyrique du Royaume, J.S. Bach’s B Minor Mass (BWV 232) with Montreal’s acclaimed Ensemble Caprice, and in Kopernikus (Vivier) with Against the Grain Theatre, Toronto. He currently lives in Toronto, Ontario. |
