The Portuguese contralto, Estrela de Sousa Martinho, started her music studies at Academia de Amadores de Música in Lisbon in 2010, as a recorder player in the class of Isabel Gonzaga, with whom she completed her secondary studies in 2017. She continued her studies at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, working with Pedro Castro and Pedro Couto Soares. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree in the recorder in 2020.
As a singer, beginning her studies with Margarida Marecos in 2015 and later studying with Ana Leonor Pereira, Estrela Martinho has participated in various projects. With Academia de Amadores de Música she performed many concerts focused on early music in Igreja do Loreto as a singer and also a recorder player. Some of the pieces she has done as a soloist are Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria, and operas as Leal Moreira's A Vingança da Cigana, W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, and more recently H. Purcell's Dido and Aeneas where she embodied Dido. In 2020, she participated in the concert of an early music project 7 Colinas / 7 Cantatas, organized by Ensemble 258.
Currently, Estrela Martinho is completing her Master’s Degree in Music Education - the recorder, at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa. |
