Eva Marti (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Milano, Italy

The Italian mezzo-soprano, Eva Marti, initially studied Set Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in her hometown Milano. In 2013, she moved to Germany, studying at the Robert Schumann Musikhochschule in Düsseldorf in the class of Professor Kammersängerin Jeanne Piland and Professor Konrad Jarnot, and obtained her Masters Degree in July 2019. During this time she furthered her development in vocal artistry through various master-classes with renowned musicians such as Brigitte Fassbaender (vocal technique), Anne Sofie von Otter, Julius Drake, Malcom Martineau (Lied interpretation), Jill Feldmann and Lavinia Bertotti (early music).

Eva Marti is a versatile and exceptional musician, feeling at home both in operatic repertoire as well as in chamber music and oratorio. During the last few years she has collected a broad stage experience, singing such roles as Flora in La Traviata, Cherubino in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Fidalma in D. Cimarosa's Il matrimonio segreto, Angelina in Cenerentola, Hermia in Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night’s Dream, 3. Dame and Papagena in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly at venues such as Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Stadttheater Pforzheim, Oper Köln (2019), Kammeroper Köln (since 2022), Schlossfestspiele Zwingenberg (2015-2019) and Goethe Theater Bad Lauchstaedt.

Eva Marti is also very active in the sacred music repertoire. In the last years she has debuted as the alto soloist in Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater; G. Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle; George Frideric Handel's Messiah and Israel in Egypt; J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245, Magnificat in D major BWV 243 and Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248; Camille Saint-Saëns' Christmas Oratorio; and Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria, amongst others.

Outside of the operatic and sacred repertoire, her love lies with chamber music. Eva Marti has given numerous recitals in Germany, Italy, Belgium and in the Netherlands together with the pianist Martha Van Damme. As a duo they won in both 2015 and 2016 prizes in the Schmolz und Bickenbach Competition for chamber music. They were also laureates of the "Udo Reinemann International Masterclasses" 2015-2016 and of the International Lied Festival in Zeist in 2019. Together they have been broadcasted by the national radio stations NPO Radio4 in the Netherlands and Rtbf Musiq3 in Belgium.

Eva Marti is a keen ensemble singer and she performs on a regular basis with renowned chamber choirs such as ChorWerk Ruhr (since January 2020; Director: Florian Helgath), Vocalensemble Rastatt (Director: Holger Speck), Kölner Vokalsolisten and Choreos (since April 2019). As an ensemble member, she sang with conductors such as Paavo Järvi, Peter Rundel, Adam Fischer, Stephen Layton, Duncan Ward, François-Xavier Roth at venues such as Baden-Baden Festspielhaus, Essener Philarmonie, De Singel Antwerpen, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Hamburgische Staatsoper. She is also a member of Rheinstimmen Ensemble, which she co-founded in April 2019 in Düsseldorf together with former fellow students. As well as a residency in the Johanneskirche in their hometown, in autumn 2019 they had their debut at the Oper Köln as semichorus (Hamlet by Brett Dean) and were invited to the Bayerische Staatsoper to perform again this role in 2023 under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski.

In the last few years Eva Marti has been a scholarship recipient from DAAD, PROMOS and Deutschlandstipendium. She currently lives in Düsseldorf, Germany.
