The American soprano, Nini Marchese, graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance (2012-2016), where she was recipient of the Voice Division Achievement Award. She studied with Cynthia Haymon at UIUC, during which time she was recognized as a winner of the Thomas J. Smith Scholarship Competition, and as a National Finalist in the New York Lyric Opera Theatre Competition. She continues her voice studies with Cynthia Clayton. During her studies in Illinois she was a founding member of ecco, an early music ensemble led by Andrew Megill.
In the 2015-2016 season, Nini Marchese performed Philidel and Venus in Henry Purcell’s King Arthur. She also made her solo debut with Lyric Theatre at Illinois in Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream as Cobweb and the Tytania cover. In Summer 2016 she was a Young Artist as Ad Astra Music Festival, performing in various concerts including George Frideric Handel’s Jephtha, and a staged recital accompanied by Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Matthew Piatt. In the 2016-2017 season, she was a frequent soloist with Bach Society Houston, including their performances of J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245), BWV 150, BWV 96, and BWV 80. She also made several appearances with the Bach in Schools outreach program. Nini was a soloist in performances of BWV 64 and excerpts from Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
Nini Marchese's other past opera roles include Evanco in G.F. Handel's Rodrigo, Barbarina in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Papagena in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, and both La Ira and Libia in Torrejon y Velasco’s La purpura de la rosa. She also performed the title role in a concert performance of Rameau's opera-ballet Zéphyre with Concerto Urbano Baroque Ensemble. A collaborative performer, she co-founded La Nuova Aurora Opera and co-directed the company's debut production.
From 2016-2018, Nini Marchese performed as a chorister in the Houston area, appearing in performances with Houston Chamber Choir (Director: Robert Simpson) and Bach Society Houston (Director: Rick Erickson; since August 2016). In the Summer 2017 she performed in a concert tour with Bach Society Houston in Germany, as part of the Bachfest Leipzig. She also sang as part of the Schola Cantorum at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Houston (since September 2016), and was a soloist at English and Bilingual liturgies and special events. Since June 2018, she lives in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. |
