Jeffrey Madison (Baritone)

Born: USA

The American baritone and voice teacher, Jeffrey Madison, obtained his his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, where he recently received the Recent Outstanding Alumni Award; and his Masater of Music degree and DMA from the University of Minnesota, where he continues to study with tenor John DeHaan. He is a past Metropolitan Opera National Auditions Council district winner and First Place winner in the Schubert Club Competition graduate division.

Hailed for his dramatic diversity, Jeffrey Madison has performed a varied repertoire from grand opera, operetta, and musical comedy. Most recently, he made his Carnegie Hall debut as the baritone soloist in Neilson's Symphony No. 3 with the Minnesota Orchestra. He has also performed with the Minnesota Orchestra the roles of Faninal in Der Rosenkavalier, the Father in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel and Angelotti in Toscal. He performed the role of Silvio in I Pagliacci with Fargo-Moorhead Opera and the title role of Gianni Schicchi and Germont in La Traviata with Western Plains Opera. Upcoming national engagements include the Father in Hansel and Gretel with the Colorado Symphony.

A resident of Duluth Minnesota, Jeffrey Madison performed locally the role of Ko-Ko in the Mikado, the title role of Gianni Schicchi, and King Melchior in Amahl and the Night Visitors with Lyric Opera of the North and will return to the company to reprise the role of King Melchior this December. Mr. Madison also appeared with the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra singing Gustav Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and as the Major General in the Pirates of Penzance for the summer 2010 Duluth Tall Ships Festival. Recent local performances include his debut with the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra in Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah. Upcoming 2014 performances include a return to Lyric Opera of the North in Don Pasquale as Malatesta and a debut with the Duluth Playhouse as Javert in Les Miserables.

Other recent performances include Schaunard in La Bohème with the Minnesota Opera, Marcello in West Virginia Symphony's production of La Bohème, Bottom for Seattle Opera Young Artist's production of Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, the title role of Falstaff as a guest artist with UCLA Opera Theater, Albert in Chautauqua Opera's production of Werther, and Francois Villon in The Vagabond King, Danilo in The Merry Widow, Malatesta in Don Pasquale and Mr. Webb in Our Town all with Skylark Opera. Jeffrey Madison has also made appearances with the Chautauqua Orchestra, Kenwood Symphony, and the Valley Chamber Orchestra.

Jeffrey Madison currently serves on the faculties at the University of Wisconsin-Superior (where he teaches studio voice, Class Voice, and Music Appreciation) and Bethel University. He is the co-producer of the Superior Voices Benefit Concert series, which raises money for UW-Superior voice scholarships and is also the scenic designer and scene builder for the UW-Superior Opera Workshop productions.
