Since its inception in 1989 by Michael O'Neal, The Michael O'Neal Singers (= MOS) organization has established itself as one of the premier symphonic choruses in the Southeastern USA. Comprised of a symphonic chorus of 130 auditioned voices and a professional ensemble of 12 voices, MOS provides a unique opportunity to the north metropolitan Atlanta community to experience choral presentations of artistic excellence and programmatic variety, otherwise available only by commuting into the city of Atlanta.
Through a variety of choral programming which includes classical masterworks with orchestral accompaniment, sacred and secular music of the Western European tradition, music from other cultures around the globe, and choruses from opera, Broadway, and movies, The MOS offers a spectrum of music to appeal to a diverse audience of all ages and musical tastes. In seeking to provide a variety of musical experiences in its concerts, MOS programs have featured nationally known soloists and guest artists, as well as collaborations with other local arts organizations. The singers represent a cross section of the citizens of the metropolitan Atlanta area and range in experience from dedicated amateur musicians to veteran professionals.
Now in its seventeenth season, The MOS has established a reputation for choral excellence that extends throughout the United States and abroad, as subscription series performances, concert tours, and a growing discography have received acclaim from audience members and music critics alike. The full chorus has eight recordings to its credit, and has performed in some of the most notable venues in the world, receiving high accolades for artistic excellence and crowd-pleasing programming. These venues include Carnegie Hall in New York, the historic St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland, St. Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey in London, as well as the Parisian landmarks of Notre Dame and Sacre Coeur. In addition, performances by The Michael O'Neal Singers are frequently played on Atlanta's classical music radio station WABE-90.1 FM and Georgia Public Radio, and have been featured on the nationally syndicated First Art radio broadcast.
With a repertoire spanning centuries and styles, The Michael O'Neal Chamber Singers has emerged as the Southeast's premier professional vocal ensemble with a reputation for choral excellence and polished presentation. Performing a wide range of selections, including Renaissance motets, classical masterpieces, sacred and secular literature, and popular standards from opera and musical theater, the select twelve-member group appears on college and community concert series, at professional trade shows, and for corporate, civic, and private events.
The 2005-2006 MOS concert series features both the full chorus and the chamber ensemble in performances held in MOS's home venue at Roswell United Methodist Church, as well as at the neighboring Roswell Presbyterian Church and the Falany Performing Arts Center at Reinhardt College. With subscription series concerts featuring the music of English composer John Rutter, famed Atlanta musician Robert Shaw, and the ASO Brass Quintet, The Michael O'Neal Singers and Chamber Singers will bring yet another season of diverse choral repertoire to Atlanta. |
