The Monteverdichor Würzburg (= MCW) consists of over 100 talented students and alumni of the Würzburg University and the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg. The successful and renowned choir was launched in 1998 by Matthias Beckert - Conductor and Lecturer in Choral Conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg. Based on the performances at the highest level of choral singing the MCW is highly appreciated in professional circles and highly praised by the media.
The MCW has developed a wide concert repertoire of the major oratorio works from the Renaissance to modern times. Numerous Würzburg premieres and popular concerts on historic instruments show the performance and versatility of the MCW.
As part of the Würzburg Mozart Festival 2006 designed the MCW performed Jubilee Concert with the works of the festival's founder Herman Zilch. In the same year the choir appeared in the international record company Classic Produktion Osnabrück a recording of the oratorio Die Geburt Christi by Heinrich von Herzogenberg with the MCW, the first world recording on the market. In its 15th year of existence, the MCW presented the mighty oratorio Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln by Franz Schmidt. In 2008 the MCW performed the memorial concert of the city of Würzburg on March 16, 1945 and presented at the invitation of the Würzburg University, the grand opening ceremony of the Alumni Celebration.
The Monteverdichor Würzburg (formerly: Ökumenischer Hochschulchor) is a joint project of the university communities Würzburger KHG and ESG. The continually high level and excellent performance over many years, was praised the city of Würzburg in 2007 with the Culture Medal. |
