Martin Lutz (Conductor, Harpsichord, Organ)

Born: May 9, 1950 - Germany

The German conductor, organist and harpsichordist, Martin Lutz, studied church music in Heidelberg (1975 A-exams). From 1976 to 1982 he studied musicology, history of art and old history at the University of Mainz (1976-1982).

Since 1972 Martin Lutz has been Kantor of Christophoruskirche Wiesbaden and conductor of the Schiersteiner Kantorei as well as the Kammerorchester Bach-Ensemble Wiesbaden. He is founder and artistic director of the Wiesbadener Bachwochen (since 1975) and together with the singer Scot Weir of the Musikherbst Wiesbaden (since 1994). He is also Propsteikantor of the office for church music in the Propstei Süd-Nassau.

From 1981 to 1999 Martin Lutz had a training post at Musikwissenschaftlichen Institut of the University of Mainz. Since 1997 he has training post for orchestra conducting at the Musikhochschule Frankfurt. Since 2003 he has training post for oratorio/early music at the University of Mainz. In 2009 he was appointed Professor at Mainz University.

Martin Lutz has given numerous concerts as harpsichordist and organist, as a well as a conductor with various choirs and orchestras, in Denmark, France, Holland, Yugoslavia, Litauen, Luxembourg, Austria, Poland, Portugal and Switzerland. He is member of the Period instruments ensemble Parnassi musici.

Martin Lutz has done radio, TV and CD recordings. In 1990 he received Culture Prize of the Landeshauptstadt Wiesbaden (together with Schiersteiner Kantorei), in 1987 Silver Medal of the Landeshauptstadt Wiesbaden, and in 1997 Gold Medal. In 2008 he received with "Goethe Plakette" the highest Culture Award of the State Hessen.
