The Portuguese composer and conductor, Gonçalo Lourenço, had studied in Portugal Composition with Dr. Christopher Bochmann and Dr. Roberto Perez in Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, ending in 2005. Active as a choral conductor, he founded the Odyssea Choir and the Coro da Universidade Lusófona in 2004, conduct both of them until 2009.
In USA Gonçalo Lourenço took his masters in Choral Conducting, working with Dr. Earl Rivers, Dr.Brett Scott and Dr. Elmer Thomas. He is also the artistic director of Cincinnati Camerata since January 2011. Since 2012, along with the violinists James Andrewes and Maria Romero, Gonçalo Lourenço founded the Baroque group Exordium. He was accepted in the DMA Choral Conducting Program in Indiana University (IU). He is working with Dr. Robert Porco, Dr. William Jon Gray and Dr. Carmen Tellez.
Commissioned by Maestro Gunnstein Olafsson, Gonçalo Lourenço's music has been performed by the Young Musicians Orchestra of Iceland. Additional commissions include The Allarya Chonicles for Small Orchestra, for the fantasy books of Felipe Faria, the a cappella Four Christmas Motets and Hodie Christus Natus Est, for Brass quintet, percussion and Chorus, for Maestro J.D. Goddard and the Mastersingers of Ohio and the Guitar Quartet with Chorus “Desabafo”, for the Sacramento group Vox Musica of Daniel Paulson. He currently lives in Bloomington, Indiana, USA. |
