Falco van Loon (Tenor)

Born: October 1, 1976 - Nijkerk, the Netherlands

The Dutch tenor, Falco van Loon, began singing early. With his first choir he has been allowed to gain experience at a young age as a soloist. He recived his first singing with Margriet Hoek, and from 2001 he studied at the Conservatories of Enschede and Arnhem. There he developed in classical vocal solo and ensemble singing under the supervision of Annette Kleine, Harry van Berne and Lodewijk Meeuwsen. He completed this successfully in 2007. He studied for a year at the Messiaen Academie. He attended master-classes with Marien van Nieukerken, Breda Zakotnik, Pierre Mak, David Wilson-Johnson, Bernard Loonen and Meinard Kraak. Currently he is coached by Meinard Kraak.

Falco van Loon has become a much sought after soloist in a short time. He has already given many concerts with music from various styles over the centuries. Besides the Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) and many other cantatas by J.S. Bach, he was very successful in the role of Evangelist in the St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) in the Dutch re-translation of Jan Rot. In addition to the repertoire of J.S. Bach, he sang in various oratorio works including W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Felix Mendelssohn's Elias, the Stabat Mater by Haydn and Schubert, Petite Messe Solennelle by G. Rossini and other major works. He is much appreciated for his performances of the art songs and other concert repertoire, including the Serenade and Nicolas Cantata by Benjamin Britten.

Falco van Loon played in several opera productions. In Dido and Aeneas by H. Purcell he performed various roles as Aeneas, Sorceress and Sailor. He also had a big role in the premiere of the contemporary opera Ulrike Meinhof by A. Backerra. He sang W.A. Mozart in emi-staged productions of several operas, including Die Zauberflöte and Don Giovanni. He sang the role of Aceste, the chief priest of Ascanio in Alba by W.A. Mozart.

Since 2008, Falco van Loon has a part-time permanent position with the Groot Omroep Koor (Netherlands Radio Choir). He sings regularly in various professional ensembles such as the Nederlands Kamerkoor, Amsterdam Baroque Choir (Director: Ton Koopman), Capella Isalana (Director: Klaas Stok), Ensemble Lyrique (Director: Simon Schouten) and Le Nuove Musiche Ensemble. He is also the Artistic Director of Bach Consort Nijkerk.
