The German conductor, Frank Löhr, studied piano, composition and conducting in Hamburg. Courses with Menahem Pressler (piano), Mathias Husmann (conducting), Thomas Brandis (chamber music), Bob van Asperen (harpsichord) and Martin Lücker (organ) completed his studies.
In addition to his solo work with a particular fondness for historical keyboard instruments, Frank Löhr has worked as a pianist and conductor. He has worked with Jessye Norman, Zubin Mehta, Donald Runnicles, Simon Halsey, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Hamburger Symphoniker, Magdeburger Philharmoniker, Choir of the Bamberger Symphoniker, Student Chamber Choir of St. Petersburg and Orféon Navarro Reverter Valencia and with the conductors Giuseppe Sinopoli, Eiji Oue, Terry Edwards and Jonathan Nott. He has performed as a guest in various festivals, including the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, the Jacques Offenbach Festival and the Musiktheater-Biennale München.
Already at 27 Frank Löhr was professor of conducting. After teaching at the Musikhochschulen of Hamburg, Bremen and Frankfurt, he serves since April 2005 at the Musikhochschule Hannover. He won first prize at the composition competition of the Hamburger Musikhochschule, LIONS-Award and the culture prize of his hometown.
Since 1997 Frank Löhr has been artistic director of the Ahrensburger Kammerorchester, and since August 2003 he is director of the Bergedorfer Kammerchor. |
