The Italian mezzo-soprano, Marlene Lichtenberg, was born in South Tyrol, Italy. After her formation as primary school teacher, she studied at Mozarteum Salzburg (2004-2007) and at the Janacek Academy in Brünn, Czech Republic with Richard Novák (vocal music) and with Lubomir Matl (choral conducting). Currently, she works with KS Brigitte Eisenfeld in Berlin, Germany.
Until 2001, Marlene Lichtenberg taught choral conducting at the Musikschule Südtirol (Music School South Tyrol). In summer 2008 she made her debut in the role of Flora in Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata at the Opera Festival Avenches (Switzedrland). She gathered her first experiences on stage in Catania as the first Magd in Elektra under Will Humburg in Turin, as Maddalena in Rigoletto in Kosice, as Ulrica in Un Ballo in Maschera under Peter Dvorsky, in Liberec as Carmen in Georges Bizet's Carmen and in Bad Hersfeld as Fenena in Nabucco. In Bad Hersfeld, she was awarded with the Bad Hersfeld Opera Prize for her artistic work.
Since the 2010-2011 season, Marlene Lichtenberg performs lead roles such as Amneris, Carmen, Orfeo and Hänsel as ensemble member at the Staatstheater Cottbus. She was referred to as "one of the biggest hopes in stagecraft" by the magazine Die Opernwelt after her grand success as Erda, Waltraute and the first Norn. The Staatstheater Cottbus conferred her the Sponsorship Award Max Grünebaum right after the first season. In 2013, she accepted the invitation of the National Theater in Riga and performed there the role of Carmen. During the 2014-2015 season, she gave a guest performance as Ulrica at the National Theater of Sofia and as Zia Principessa at the Lübeck Theater.
In addition to her activities as opera singer, Marlene Lichtenberg is a sought-after recital and concert singer. Her extensive concert activities lead them in particular to Germany, Italy, Austria and Switzerland. In 2010-2011 seaon, she sang Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater in Bologn.In 2013 she performed the Angel in Edward Elgar's oratorio The Dream of Gerontius at the Dresden Music Festival (Dresdner Musikfestspiele) under the direction of Roderich Kreile. She achieved grand success at the Brandenburg Summer Concerts (Brandenburgische Sommerkonzerte) as interpreter of Gustav Mahler's Symphonies Nos. 2 and 3. As concert soloist, she overtook at the end of March 2015 the alto part of J.S. Bach's St John Passion (BWV 245) directed by Will Humburg in Darmstadt, Germany. In July 2015, she sang the Wesendonck-Lieder (Fassung Henze) at the Chambord Castle (France) under the direction of Evan Christ.
In the upcoming season, Marlene Lichtenberg is looking forward to have her debut as La Favorite (G. Donizetti) and Principessa Eboli (G. Verdi). |
