In the 17th and 18th cebturies figural church music was performed in large rooms mostly in a small, often with solo cast of singers. The ensemble singing was meted out as the highest importance of the singing practice, for it is only regarded as the perfect singer who could excel both as a soloist in a virtuoso aria and to fit in the ensemble in the same way as the leader of a vocal group did. The concerto principle, the correspondence of soli and tutti, was considered one of the most important components of Baroque music-making. These criteria are the standard by which the Bach Consort Leipzig focuses in its interpretation of this music. The interplay of soloists, ripienists and instrumentalists of the Bach Consort Leipzig focuses a special rhetorical concision, extraordinary richness of color and a transparent sound.
Gotthold Schwarz, internationally acclaimed singer with an extensive artistic experience, is founder and director of the ensemble.
