The Hungarian soprano, Magda Lászlò, studied at the Budapest Academy of Music and with Irene Stowasser.
In 1943 Magda Lászlò made her operatic debut at the Budapest Opera, where she sang leading roles until 1946. She followed that by engagements with the principal opera companies of Italy. Subsequent tours of France, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, and England established her international reputation. Because her repertoire embraces a remarkable range from Lieder and ancient arias to the music of modern composers, she has participated in all the leading European music festivals including the Glyndebourne Festival, the Contemporary Music Festival at Frankfurt, the Italian Radio cycle 'The Greatest International Interpreters of Vocal Music', the Festival of Bergamo, and the Festival of Sacred Music at Perugia.
Magda Lászlò made her American debut at the Camera concert at Town Hall, New York, and has appeared at the Ogai Festival with Igor Stravinsky, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Reiner and on special broadcasts of the CBC in Canada. During the 1950’s she was Hermann Scherchen’s favourite soprano for his recordings of Bach Cantatas and other vocal works. |
