Born: April 26, 1963 - Helsinki (?), Finland

The Finnish choral conductor and organist, Riitta Laine, attended the coed school in Käpylä. She studied church music in Helsinki at the Sibelius-Akademie and in Berlin at the Berliner Kirchenmusikschule.
Since 2000 Riitta Laine has been the cantor of the German community (Deutschen Gemeinde) in Helsinki. The study period 1990-1995 in Berlin aroused great enthusiasm especially for J.S. Bach's cantatas that have been often performed as part of the program. Other great composers important for her are Heinrich Schütz and Johannes Brahms. Voice and phonation in adults and children are important matters for her.
In the German community she directs the Deutsch-Finnischer Chor (DFC), a children's choir, making early musical education, playing organ at church services, baptisms, weddings and funerals and is planning concerts - and sometimes she gives organ concerts. |
