The Turkish flautist, Şefika Kutluer, studied for her soloist career in Vienna and Rome. She has studied at Ankara State Conservatory and graduated with honors and awards in 1979, when she became a flute member of the "Presidential Symphony Orchestra". After winning several international competitions and launching her truly international career as a soloist, she was awarded the presidential Medal in Turkey, in 1985, the highest honor that country bestows on an individual.
Şefika Kutluer is a flute soloist who is a master technician with a great musicianship. She takes her place as one of the most distinguished flute soloist on the world scene whose work receives wide appraisal. She has a wide range of repertoire varying from Baroque, classical, romantic and crossover works to the music of the east and the west. Şefika Kutluer is known with her special flute tone and virtuosity. She has the mission of introducing Turkish music and rhythm, globally, in classical music formation; while protecting the music’s character. She has many times played the Turkish composers’ music throughout the world and in classical radio-TV stations, also introducing the great Turkish mystic philosophers Mevlana and Yunus Emre, explaining their philosophy. She has performed the world premier of many new-composed music, some of them written for her. Ian Anderson composed a piece called Sefika’s Tango, specially for her, and she made a concert tour with Jethro Tull playing this piece, as well. She made concerts with Claude Bolling dedicated to Jean Pierre Rampal.
Şefika Kutluer has performed several concert tours, joined many International Music Festivals and gave master-classes in Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Holland, France, Spain, Belgium, USA, Cuba, Singapore, Israel, Slovakia, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden, Macedonia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Serbia & Montenegro, TRN Cyprus, Tunisia, Lebanon, UK, Mexico, Azerbaijan, China and Japan and received very favorable reviews. She has performed a concert at the Palace of Spain in the presence of the King and the Queen and in Tokyo under the auspices of Prince Mikasa.
Şefika Kutluer, known as the “Magic Flute”, has performed on various international TV and radio channels, in Austria (ORF), England (BBC), Switzerland (RTL), Germany (TRT-INT), Rotterdam (Rijnmond), Bratislava, Kiev, Minsk, Vilnius, Moscow, Beijing, Tokyo, Washington D.C. (WGMS), Chicago (WNIB/WNIZ) and New York. She made concert tours and CD recordings with several famous conductors and orchestra’s including;

SONY released her “International first prize winners” concert in Vienna as a CD. Sefika Kutluer has several CD’s recorded with Orchestra, piano and guitar accompaniment, released by Pan Classical, Sony Classical, Naxos and Gallo International. Her CD’s are distributed all around the world and her discography receives the critics and music-lovers’ great appraisal. Sony has awarded her Carmen Fantasy CD with a "Golden CD Prize". Her "Bach Sonatas" CD has been chosen as the second best CD of the year by the Critics of the American Record Guide. She also received “Golden Gallo CD Collection” prize from Gallo International. Gallo releases all her CDs with "Golden CD Collection" label.
Şefika Kutluer became in 1998 a "State Artist". She has been decorated with Italian State Medal “Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella della Solidarieta’ Italiana” by the President of Italy. She is a "State Soloist" of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism Izmir State Symphony Orchestra. As music critics say, “She has an astonishing tone color, beautifully rich and thick sound and she imparts a shimmering brilliance to her music. “
This emotional and technically superb musician performs as a concert soloist all over the world, with her virtuous flute. Her pure Golden and Silver flutes were hand-made specially for her by the legendary flute craftsman Johannes Hammig and their maintenance are being done by his grandson Bernhard Hammig.
