The Croatian pianist and music teacher, Katarina Krpan, graduated and received her master’s degree at the Academy of Music in Zagreb in the class of Professor Vladimir Krpan (her father). She continued her education and received her second master’s degree at the University of music in Lausanne in the class of Professor Jean-François Antonioli.
Katarina Krpan organised a series of notable recitals, concerts with symphony and chamber orchestras and chamber music performances, and with that she is included among the leading Croatian concert artists early on. Over the years she has built an international reputation by performing in renowned festivals as well as numerous concerts held in major music centers of Europe , North and South America, Australia and Africa. She has performed with the Croatian orchestra and also with numerous international orchestras. She has recorded quite a number of studio recordings made for the leading Croatian, Swiss and Italian broadcasting house, and several compact discs released by domestic and foreign record labels.
Katarina Krpan has paid great attention to the systematic promotion of new Croatian music, and she has premiered and recorded an impressive array of recent piano compositions as a solo artist and as well collaborating with distinguished Croatian composers, equally dedicated to her by talented beginners and doyens of contemporary music (Milko Kelemen, B. Šipuš, Mladen Tarbuk...). A distinct preference for poetic testimony artist often shows on the concert podium linking projects within the concert music and verse. Then she often collaborates with actor Rene Medvešek. The belief in the necessity of promoting national musical creativity and transmitted to the students, led to her intention to establish HR project that brings together students of different departments with the aim of working on the music of Croatian authors and their performing in concerts across the country.
Alongside her intensive artistic career in the country and abroad, Katarina Krpan has also developed a pedagogical career. In her work with young musicians, she has shown strong ability for the development of young musicians, paying special attention to their comprehensive education. Over the years she has been working and teaching in the piano department of the Music Academy of the University of Zagreb, where in 2010 she became a professor. She is also the head of the Council for Postgraduate Studies of the Music Academy of the University of Zagreb.
The numerous awards Katarina Krpan has won so far confirm the value of her work. Awards she has won include: Croatian Musical Youth Award (1992), Lisinski Croatian Composers' Society (2012), Milka Trnina Croatian Music Society (2012). She currently lives in Zagreb, Croata. |
