Born: September 21, 1943 - Vienna, Austria |
The first steps of Austrian tenor, Werner Krenn, in music were as a chorister in the Wiener Sängerknaben. He later studied bassoon and became first bassoonist with the Wiener Symphoniker from 1962 to 1966. But on the advice of singing experts, he decided to make the most of his fully developed voice and become a singer. He took voice lessons with Elisabeth Rado in Vienna.
Werner Krenn made his operatic debut in Purcell’s The Fairy Queen at the Berlin Deutsche Oper. The he sang regularly at the Vienna State Opera. He made his English debut as Jaquino with the Scottish Opera in 1970.
Werner Krenn also appeared frequently as a concert and oratorio singer. His first international appearances were under Herbert von Karajan - in L.v. Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis in Salzburg. He had the reputation of one of the foremost lyrical tenors of the late 1960’s and the 1970’s. He was married to the soprano Helga Dernesch. |
