The German conductor, Joachim Krause, received his first musical training in piano, violin, organ and music theory with his father, Kantor Max Krause, cathedral organist Erich Ackermann, Fulda und Dr. Philipp Möller, Fulda. In the area of church music studies he received soloist diploma at the Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik Freiburg From 1977 to 1983 he studied choir and orchestra conducting with Professor W. Schäfer, Professor Dr. Hans-Michael Beuerle, Professor Klaus Hövelmann and Professor M. Lehmann, Organ and Improvisation with Professor L. Doerr. A scholarship of the "Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienstes" made possible the studies in 1983-1984 with Marie-Claire Alain in Paris, which he finished in 1984 with the "Prime Minister Prix à l'Unanimité". Guesting with several conductors completed his training programme.
Since 1984 Joachim Krause is music director at the Heiliggeist Kirche in Basel, according to their rich church-musical tradition with various tasks in Liturgie and concert. Since 1986 he is conductor of the Basler Bach-Chor. In 1988 he was founding member and until 2000 conductor of the chamber orchestra Concertino Basel. From 1995 to 1999 he was conductor of the chamber choir Vocapella Basel. In 1996 he was appointed as artistic director of the Gemischte Chor Zürich.
In 2001 Joachim Krause created Ensemble 14, a chamber ensemble for modern music. Since 2002 he is conductor of the vocal ensemble "I Sestini", emphasised with the music of Claudio Monteverdi and his time. Co-operation for oratorios with the Basel Sinfonietta, Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, Barockorchester Capriccio Basel, Kammerorchester Basel, Sinfonieorchester Basel, enables him apart from the baroque-classical-romantic repertoire to apply his special interest of the music of our time. His many premieres in the areas of concert, oratorio, organ and also opera include: J. Meier's Vom Ende der Zeit, P. Suits' Deutsche Messe (1985) and the cantata Jüngst und einst (2004), J. Kost's Niklaus und Dorothea von Flüe (1924), M. Heep's Markuspassion (2001) and the opera Fallschirmseide (2002), D. Wohnlich's Dir allejn oif Zeloches (2001) an the ortatorio Judas Ischarioth (2004), Arnold Schoenberg/Steinauer's Die hängenden Gärten - orchestral version (1999), J. Demierre's Rollende Bälle (1999), A. Komarova's Concertino (1998), H.W. Henze's Der Idiot - revised version (1996), O. Neuwirth's Ecstaloop (2001).
