The German guitarist, Ansgar Krause, passed the Humboldtgymnasium in Solingen in 1975. The same year he started his studies of school music with violin as major subject at the Musikhochschule Köln. He soon switched to guitar, concentrating more and more on this instrument, and in 1976 majored in guitar with Professor T. Sasaki in Aachen. In 1979 he won the 1st Prize at the International Guitar Competition in Milan, and in 1980 completed his school-music studies and received the artistic diploma in guitar with distinction at the Musikhochschule Köln.
Ansgar Krause has given solo recitals in various European countries. His concert tours have taken him to Korea and Egypt. In addition to the solo work he has appeared in various chamber ensembles and with orchestras. Among his partners are Mechthild Georg (alto), Ludger Lohmann (harpsichord), Michael Krücker (Hammerklavier), Andreas Cavelius (piano), Artus-Quartett (string quartet of Saarland Radio), Thomas Müller-Pering (guitar) and Hans-Werner Huppertz (guitar), Michael Schmidt-Casdorff (flute) and Ulrich Hübner (natural horn).
Ansgar Krause's work for radio / television has included: film music productions for ARD and WDR; radio productions at WDR and SR; education programs and participation in productions of school books. His recordings include: "Focus Classics" with Thomas Müller-Pering, guitar (popular classical music); CD "New J.S. Bach transcriptions (guitar solo), which was included, together with 11 others, in the list of best world-released classical CD's of 1997; CD "Serenata Notturna" as Janus Duo (guitar-duo together with Hans-Werner Huppertz).
Ansgar Krause has taught classical guitar at the Musikhochschule Köln since 1981, and at the Hochschule des Saarlandes für Musik und Theater since 1986 (methodology, literature, science, school-practice of guitar playing for schools). He is also head of international master-classes. In 1998 he was appointed as professor.
Ansgar Krause has become well-known among professionals for his numerous transcriptions for guitar solo, two guitars, guitar and voice, for various publishers, such as Schott, Breitkopf & Härtel, Heinrichshofen, etc. He has written articles and interviews for various magazines. He is involved in production of music videos and books of orchestral and choral works, etc. for various music publishers. He has also developed and produced fonts (computer fonts) for music notation programs. |
