The Canadian lyric mezzo sopran and voice teacher, Andrea Kovago, studied for Bachelor of Music degree (not completed) at the University of Calgary Alberta, Canada (1995-1998; Instructor: Professor Patricia Hrynkiw). She obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from the University of Lethbridge Alberta, Canada (1998-2000; Instructor: Professor Joanne Hounsell); her Master of Music degree in Voice Performance & Opera from the University of Minnesota (2000-2002; Instructor/Advisor, Dr. Clifton Ware), and her Voice Pedagogy Certification also from University of Minnesota (2002; Instructor/Advisor, Dr. Clifton Ware). She obtained herr Doctorate of Musical Arts in Voice Performance & Opera from the University of Minnesota (2002-2007; Instructor/Advisor, Professor Lawrence Weller).
A sought after performer throughout the USA and Canada, Andrea Kovago has performed steadily in the areas of opera, oratorio, chamber music and numerous solo and collaborative recitals throughout her career. Equally at home in opera venues and recitals, has performed many lead and supporting operatic roles and has often been a featured soloist with many distinguished organizations such as Société philharmonique de Montréal, Stewart Hall Singers, Choeur symphonique de Sherbrooke, Choeur Sorel-Tracy, L'Ensemble Con Brio de Montréal, The Oratorio Society of Minnesota, Bach Society of Minnesota, Exultate Chamber Choir & Orchestra (Director: Thomas D. Rossin), Minnetonka Choral Society, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and Kensington Sinfonia in Calgary.
During her time in Montréal, Andrea Kovago performed with the Société philharmonique de Montréal under the baton of Maestro Miklos Takács, Choeur Sorel-Tracy with conductor Josée Laforest and L'Ensemble Con Brio de Montréal, Le Choeur Québecois, and St. James the Apostle Anglican Choir..She is one of 16 members in Choeur de Chambre du Québec, a relatively new professional choir comprised of young Francophone and Anglophone artists from Quebec lead by artistic director, instructor and composer Robert Ingari. Recently, she has become a new member of the Ottawa Classical Choir under the direction of Maestro Michel Brousseau.
Andrea Kovago made her recording debut in March of 2002. Since then, she has recorded three more compact disks featuring her as alto soloist in such works as J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232), J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243), J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245, sung in English) and W.A. Mozart's Requiem.
Alongside her professional endeavors, Andrea Kovago has become a distinguished voice teacher and an avid member of several professional affiliations. She has taught in numerous university and college settings for the past eighteen years (including work at Dalhousie University Department of Music and Arts in Halifax Nova Scotia, The University of Minnesota, Anoka Ramsey Community College in Minnesota, University of Calgary and the University of Lethbridge Music Conservatory), while maintaining her private voice studio. She has been committed to teaching excellence and mentoring singers and pianists of all ages and levels for more than 20 years. She currently teaches more than 45 voice and piano students each week from her home in Orleans, Ontario and in music schools like Tutti Muzik, Ottawa School of Music and Russell Music Academy. Alongside her busy teaching schedule, she finds time to adjudicate the Kiwanis Music Festival and NATS competitions and coaches public speaking and monologues for straight theatre auditions. She continues to work with, coach and adjudicate many aspiring singers, many of whom have been accepted into several prestigious music and voice programs throughout Canada and the USA. She has since expanded her private studio and is now the proud owner and operator of Kovago Voice Studio & Music Book Store located in Westmount QC. She currently lives in Orleans, Ontario, Canada. |
