The Dutch violinist, Kees Koelmans, finished successfully the gymnasium secondary school in Arnhem in 1976. He then studied the violin with Jacques Meijer and Wim ten Have in Groningen until 1978. Subsequently, he studied the violin with Bouw Lemkes and the Baroque violin with Jaap Schröder at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam.
In 1984, Kees Koelmans was one of the founders of the Baroque Orchestra of De Nederlandse Bachvereniging. He was a long-time member of the Camerata de Madrid and subsequently worked with the most prominent European Early Music ensembles. Since 1985, he has been a member of Frans Brüggen’s Orchestra of the 18th Century, its many chamber music ensembles bringing him to numerous stages at home and abroad.
Kees Koelmans was a violin teacher at the conservatories of Zwolle, Groningen, Arnhem and Antwerp and guest Professor at the University of Salamanca. As of the year 2000, he has been a violin and chamber music teacher at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam as well as a member of both the Orchestra of the 18th Century and the early music group Musica Amphion. In 2012 he was appointed Head of Strings at the Amsterdam conservatory.
