The Korean-born choral conductor, Kyung (Kyungouk) Ko, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Church Music from Yonsei University, Korea; his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Louisville, Kentucky; and his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the summer of August 2018.
An active conductor, baritone soloist and accompanist, Kyung Ko has collaborated as a professional chorister with numerous choral organizations such as the Choral Arts Society of Washington in Washington DC under Norman Scribner, the Cathedral Choral Society under Dr. J. Reilly Lewis and the Cardinal Singers of University of Louisville, Kentucky under Dr. Kent Hatteberg. As a conductor, he founded the Bach Collegium Ensemble in Lincoln, Nebraska and worked as assistant conductor for the Chamber Singers, UNL opera production, and Women’s choir during his doctoral studies at the University of Nebraska (2013-June 2016). Hae also directed the Advent Project in Northern Virginia, and experienced various roles as section leader, organist, pianist, soloist and conductor. His passion for traditional and contemporary church music has been molded from various ministry involvements, YWAM (Youth With A Mission), KOSTA (Korean Students in America) and young adult ministry in local churches while pursuing studies in choral music.
Kyung Ko joined the staff at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Circle Pines, Minnesota in June 2016, to serve the church’s music ministry as Director of Music. In August 2018, he was also appointed Artistic Director for Caritas Vocal Ensemble in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area of Minnesota.
Kyung Ko is married to his wonderful wife Jiwhi Eo and they are the parents of Jeremiah and Esther. He currently lives in Shoreview, Minnesota. |
