The English baritone, Jerome Knox, graduated from Edinburgh University with a degree in Classical Studies. He is currently working towards a Masters in Vocal Performance at the Royal College of Music, London, supported by a Knights of the Round table Award and a Martin Harris Award, under the tuition of Russell Smythe. He previously studied with Eric von Ibler in Edinburgh and was winner of the Margaret Fletcher Lieder Prize 2011 and the recipient of the Michael Shea Scholarship 2012 and The Florence Veitch Ibler Prize for Opera 2012.
Operatic roles include Don Pomponio in La Gazzetta by Rossini, Le Fauteuil in L'enfant et les Sortilèges by Ravel, Sprecher in Die Zauberflöte by W.A. Mozart (RCMIOS), Masetto in Don Giovanni by W.A. Mozart (Co-opera Co, London), Nick Shadow in The Rake's Progress by Igor Stravinsky, Somnus in Semele by George Frideric Handel, Badger and Harasta in The Cunning Little Vixen by Janáček (all Edinburgh Studio Opera), as well as Papageno in The Magic Flute by W.A. Mozart (Schola Cantorum of Edinburgh). He created the role of WH Auden in Journeying Boys by Iain Burnside at RCM, performed the Lieutenant in Yeoman of the Guard by Sullivan in Portsmouth Guildhall and played Peter by Priest in semi-staged production of Jonathan Harvey's Passion as part of the Voices of London Festival.
Solo performances include G.F. Handel’s Messiah with Martyn Brabbins, J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), Haydn's Creation, (St Magnus Cathedral, Orkney), Maurice Duruflé's Requiem (London Symphony Orchestra at St Lukes, London) Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, (Dunfermline Choral), Haydn's Cacilienmesse (Greyfriars Kirk, Edinburgh), G.F. Handel's Dixit Dominus (St Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh) and J.S. Bach's Wachet auf (BWV 140) (Hutcheson's Choral Society, Glasgow). Jerome Knox has performed with John Butt and the Dunedin Consort throughout Scotland and on tour in Halle, Germany, the Chapelle Royale, Chateau de Versailles, France and Verden, Germany. |
