The German pianist, Rainer Maria Klaas, studied the piano with Detlef Kraus, Klaus Hellwig and Yara Bernette as well as in courses given by Guido Agosti, Jorge Bolet and Czeslaw Marek. He graduated as a concert pianist in Hamburg in 1977.
Rainer Maria Klaas is regarded as one of the most versatile interpreters of 19th and 20th century piano and chamber music. Concerts and master-classes have taken him to several European countries, the USA, Israel and South Korea. His repertoire encompasses more than 600 composers. As a soloist with orchestras, he dealt extensively with W.A. Mozart, L.v. Beethoven, Frédéric Chopin, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, Charles-Valentin Alkan, Camille Saint-Saëns, Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninov, Igor Stravinsky, Gershwin and Dmitri Shostakovich. He has played piano concertos for the last four years by Stefan Heucke, Martin Münch and Frank Zabel. Many of the works of his soloist and chamber music repertoire are documented on CD or in radio broadcasts.
Since 1975, Rainer Maria Klaas has been the director of the “integral::musiken” in Recklinghausen and in 1999 he was prominent as the initiator and artist in the North Rhine-Westphalian festival “MM::99 – 20th Century Chamber Music in 50 Concerts”. He teaches at the studio::busoni in Recklinghausen and Dortmund. |
