The Swedish harpsichordist, organist and musical director, Magnus Kjellson, studied at Musikkonservatoriet Falun, Lugnetgymnasiet, Göteborgs Universitet, and Sweelinck Konservatorium.
Magnus Kjellson has been the artistic and musical director of Göteborg Baroque since he founded the ensemble in 2003. He conducts the ensemble traditionally as a performing conductor from the keyboard of the organ or harpsichord. What makes Göteborg Baroque's sound unique is the intimate interplay between the ensemble's instrumentalists and singers and their shared passion for early music. The ensemble makes its home and presents its general program series at the German Christianae Church in Göteborg. Göteborg Baroque regularly performs important and well-known works from the Baroque, but also presents less famous musical pearls, often re-premiering works that have been ignored for hundreds of years. The ensemble is now one of the leading vocal and instrumental ensembles in Northern Europe.
Magnus Kjellson has been awarded several awards, including “The Swedish Early Music Award” for his work with Göteborg Baroque and Early Music. In addition to Göteborg Baroque, he has a rich concert activity as a soloist and ensemble leader. He also holds a position as organist in the German Christinae Church.
Göteborg Baroque recently received a large donation from Sten A Olsson's Foundation for Research and Culture. The donation enables the ensemble to realize three musical dream projects, of which Orfeo is the first, and to have a claviorganum built; a combination instrument of a harpsichord and an organ. When Georg Friedrich Händel is at the peak of his career in the middle of the 18th century, and is Europe's most celebrated musician, he leads singers and instrumentalists from a claviorganum. The ensemble's instruments was completed in 2018 and Göteborg Baroque's 15th anniversary! Magnus Kjellson currently lives in Göteborg (Gothenburg), Sweden. |
