The South Korean soprano, Sae-jeong Kim, started her singing career in high school, when she won the prestigious award from the city of Daegu (Korea). With great help and support from her teacher Kwonja Shin, she entered Kyungbuk National University(KNU) where she has studied with Gyija Kim. As a part of her studies at KNU , she performed in several operas to gain more experience on stage. While studying at University, she won the concerto competition which allowed her to perform with KNU Symphony. She was also picked as an upcoming young soloist to represent KNU.
Immediately after her graduation, Sae-jeong Kim became a member of the Pohang City Choir. All this did not stop her exploring further into Musicals. As a result she has performed in the musicals The Sound of Music, Evita and The Phantom of the Opera. During her career she developed a deeper interest in early music and continued her studies as a Master student at the Koninklijk Conservatorium (Royal Conservatoire) in The Hague. She studied under Barbara Pearson, Jill Feldman, Peter Kooy and Michael Chance. In September 2009, she performed the opera Dido & Aeneas (as Dido) by Purcell, during the master-class with James Bowman.
Sae-jeong Kim participated in several operas In October 2009,she performed successfully as Poppea in George Frideric Handel's opera Agrippina. In September 2010, she performed La serva padrona by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. This was the final concert of her master-class with Mark Tucker. In February 2011, she won the audition for Solo Cantata INO by Telemann, and performed with Jacques Ogg and Royal Conservatoire Baroque Orchestra in Voorschoten and De Glind.
As a soloist, Sae-jeong Kim has been performing The Requiem by W.A. Mozart, the Messiah by G.F. Handel, Die Schöpfung by Haydn, Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244), Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Magnificat (BWV 243) and many Cantatas by J.S. Bach . She has a lot of choir experience: she has been a permanent professional member of Pohang city choir for 6 years. In 2013 she has been singing with Schleswig-Holstein Festival Choir and the Nederlands Kamerkoor (Director: Peter Dijkstra). She currently lives in the Netherlands. |
