The Korean-American, choral conductor, James, Kim, studied at University of Southern California and at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He has studied and worked with some of the greatest J.S. Bach interpreters of our time, including Philippe Herreweghe and Helmuth Rilling, with whom he spent two years in Stuttgart, Germany.
As Artistic Director of Colorado Bach Ensemble (since 2012), James Kim has dedicated himself to performing the music of J.S. Bach and his contemporaries at the highest artistic level for American audiences. Building on the rich history of J.S. Bach scholarship and performance, he brings his own approach and commitment to the music he performs in Colorado. A recent review captures Kim’s desire to perform and teach the music of J.S. Bach: “James Kim is one of the few conductors that I have ever known who has the stamina and courage to present a lecture concert… I am sure that this is extremely useful for the members of the audience at large who might not have been trained musicians. I know they appreciated it for they gave Colorado Bach Ensemble a standing ovation. Both the lecture and the performance were superb.”
James Kim is also the Director of Choral Activities at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, and Director of the Chancel Choir at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cherry Hills Village (since 2013). He currently lives in Denver, Colorado. |
