The French violinist, Liza Kerob, started playing the violin at the age of 5. After a 1st Prize unanimously for violin at the CNR in Tours, she was admitted to the CNSM in Paris where she obtained a 1st Prize unanimously in Chamber Music in 1991 in the class of Michel Strauss and a 1st Prize at the unanimously in Violin in 1992 in the class of Gérard Poulet. Admitted that same year to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia in the class of Aaron Rosand, she graduated in 1996 with the Bachelor of Music degree; then (1996) continued her musical studies at the Juilliard School of Music in New York in the class of Glenn Dicterow where in 1998 she obtained her Master of Music degree. She also perfected herself with renowned concert performers and teachers such as Eduard Schmieder, Hermann Krebbers, Erik Friedmann, Felix Galimir and Viktor Danchenko. She has won numerous awards in international violin competitions, including the 2nd Grand Prix at the Douai Competition in 1996; 1st Prize at the "Artists International" Competition in New York in 1998; 4th Prize at the "Pablo de Sarasate" Competition In Spain in 1999. She has also been a Laureate of the Natexis Foundation since 1995.
In May 2000, she was named "Supersolist" of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, under the direction of Marek Janowski. She frequently performs in recital, at numerous festivals such as “C pas Classique!”, Connaissance des jeunes interprètes, Flâneries de Reims, Le Boucard, Moments Musicaux de Touraine, Le Festival de Pâques d'Aix en Provence, Owon Festival (Korea), as well as at the Concertgebow in Amsterdam and Carnegie Hall in New York, and as a soloist, playing the concertos of Johannes Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Lalo, Sibelius, L.v. Beethoven, Dvorak, Khatchaturian, Felix Mendelssohn, Bruch … With numerous orchestras in France and abroad, under the direction of conductors including Marek Janowski, Walter Weller, Lawrence Foster, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Pascal Rophé and Kazuki Yamada. She is regularly invited to play as a supersolist witht the Orchester National du Capitole de Toulouse, and also indulges in the joys of jazz and improvisation.
Liza Kerob shares the stage with renowned concert performers including Yakov Kreizberg, Vadim Repin, Roustem Saïtkoulov, Vahan Mardirossian, Nicolas Bringuier, Gary Hoffman, Eric-Maria Couturier, Laurent Wagshal, Jean-François Zygel, Shani Diluka, Sung-Won Yang , Les Chanteurs d'Oiseaux, Patrice Fontanarosa, Régis Pasquier, Olivier Charlier, Gérard Caussé, Dominique de Williencourt, Jean Ferrandis, Lidija and Sanja Bizjak, Matan Porat, Iddo Bar-Shaï, and Luis Fernando Pérez.
In 2013, Liza Kerob made with the Trio Goldberg a recording of the famous Goldberg Variations (BWV 988) by J.S. Bach, in the transcription for string trio by Dmitry Sitkovetsky, and the trio was therefore invited by many festivals, including La Folle Journée de Nantes and Ekaterinbourg, Festival de Chaillol, Festival de Menton, Moments Musicaux de L’Hermitage in La Baule, Musée d'Orsay, in Bordeaux, Tours, Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava, London and Monaco. A second album "De l'Ombre à la Lumière" appeared in 2018 with trios by Jean Cras, Mieczyslaw Weinberg, Gideon Klein, and Ernst von Dohnányi for the ARS Produktion label. This CD is acclaimed by the French and international press. In 2017, she recorded Berlioz' "Rêverie et caprice" with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo under the direction of Kazuki Yamada, this CD was released in December 2017 under the OPMC Classics label distributed by Warner. She has also recorded Luis Bacalov's Concerto Grosso under her direction, this CD was released at the end of 2019.
Liza Kerob plays on a Battista Gabrielli violin dating from 1754, which is on loan to her from a private Swiss collection. She currently lives in Lives in Nice, France. |
