The English Tenor, William Kendall, visited the King's School in Canterbury, was Choral Scholar of the University of Canterbury and was then trained the great singers Robert Tear and Peter Pears.
William Kendall began a very successful career as concert and oratorio singer, appeared in his England homeland together with major orchestras and conductors, and sang in contemporary vocal works of Michael Tippett and John Tavener under the baton of these composers. Thus he participated also in the premiere of the Polish Requiem by Penderecki (1983-1984), and in 1989 participated in a German tour of the Monteverdi Choir, with which her performed Missa Solemnis and C major Mass by L.v. Beethoven. In Australia he could be heard in 1990-1991 as the Evangelist in Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) of J.S. Bach, in The Dream of Gerontius by Edward Elgar and in Benjamin Britten’s Serenade. In Oxford and Cambridge he sang the tenor-solo in the Mozart’s Requiem, in London in the B minor Mass (BWV 232) of J.S. Bach. Further appearances at the Holland Festival, in Berlin, and in the years 1987 and 1989 at the Salzburg Festival (Marienvesper of Monteverdi, Johannes-Passion (BWV 245)). In 1994 he sang 1994 at Edinburgh Festival as Florestan in Fidelio (in a concertant performance of the work).
