Audun Kayser (Piano)

Born: Bergen, Norway

The Norwegian pianist, Audun Kayser, graduated from Hochschule für Musik in Vienna. He also studied with Yvonne Lefébure in Paris as well as participating in several international master-classes, including one with Géza Anda in Zürich. At 19, he won 1st prize at the Foundation Norden Piano Competition, which in turn made him a soloist with many of the leading symphony orchestra in Scandinavia.

After his debut in Oslo in 1969, Audun Kayser has performed numerous times as a soloist, with chamber music, and as accompagnist. He has toured manu European countries, as well as the USA, including concerts at Carnegie Hall, and also as a lecturer and pianist at Columbia University, New York. He has performed as soloist with renowned conductors like Aldo Ceccato, Dimitri Kitiayenko, Volker Schmidt-Gertenbach and Nicholas Braithwaite.

Audun Kayser had the position as associated professor at the Norwegian State of Music Academy for several years, whereupon he became the general manager of Troldhaugen, the home of Edvard Grieg. Since 1990, he is associated professor at the Grieg Academy of Music, University of Bergen.

Audun Kayser has made numerous recording, including the entire works for piano solo by Halfdan Kjerulf and the Goldberg Variations (BWV 988) by J.S. Bach. His CD with the Grieg piano concerto with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra has got excellent reviews and is with far over 100, 000 sold copies the best-selling classical record ever in Norway.
