The Slovenian tenor, Matevž Kajdiž, began his music career playing the cello with professor Ratomir Zekic, but at 16 he became seriously involved in singing with the Mixed Youth Choir Veter under the leadership of Urša Lah. From 1997 to 2003, the Choir participated in numerous international choir competitions and received gold plaquette and first prize in the category of Mixed youth choirs (1998 - Belgium - gold plaquette and first prize, 1999 - Germany - gold plaquette and first prize, 2000 - Ireland - Peace award, 2001 - Hungary and Germany - gold plaquette and first prize, 2002 and 2004 - Greece - gold plaquette and first prize, 2002 - Croatia - gold plaquette and first prize).
In July 1999, Matevž Kajdiž gave concert of West End musicals with conductor Michael England - opening concert of the International Summer Festival Krizanke in Ljubljana. In September 1999, he began studying solo singing at the Vic-Rudnik Music School in the class of Professor Barbara Nagode. He participated in more than 15 school concerts. In 2002, he passed the entrance examinations for the Secondary Music and Ballet School in Ljubljana, where he studied solo-singing with Professor Doroteja Cestnik-Spasic. He attended two master-classes of a tenor and great pedagogue Leonardo de Lisi (April 2002).
Matevž Kajdiž' best achievements are: Gold Plaquette from the Regional Competition in Solo Singing in Ljubljana (February 2002), Silver Plaquette from the 31st Competition of Young Musicians of the Republic of Slovenia (March 2002), Gold Plaquette from the Regional Competition in Solo Singing of Ljubljana (2004), Gold Plaquette and Third Prize on the 33rd Competition of Young Musicians of the Republic of Slovenia (2004).
In 2001 and 2002 Matevž Kajdiž presented himself as a soloist of Jacobus Gallus' (Jakob Handl) motets with a Slovenian National Radio Chamber Choir under the conductor Günther Theuring. From then to 2004, he was member of mentioned choir and helped to realize a lot of ambitious projects. In 2002 he made an international audition for World Youth Choir (WYC). In two sessions, under the leadership of Tönu Kaljuste, Maria Guinand and Johannes Prinz, they had a tour around USA, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia and recorded two CD's. They also offered him a place in “Wintersession” and World Chamber Choir. In 2003 he sang with another 11 selected soloists from around Europe and with conductor Günther Theuring in the Gallus Project - the main concert of the Brežice Early Music Festival. The concert was presented on radio EBU net and Slovenian National Television.
Matevž Kajdiž regularly co-operates with a mixed choir APZ Tone Tomšic. In 2003 and 2004 they attended choir competitions in Tampere (Finland) and Cantonigros (Spain) and received a gold plaquette and first prize. In July 2004 he performed in music festivals Valvasors Evenings in Zagorje and Young Musicians under Vitranc (Kranjska gora). He had a recital and performance with two recognized pianists Erik Šuler and Igor Seme. From 2004 he is studying at the Coninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague. He is currently in the fourth year in the class of Sasja Hunnego.
As a soloist Matevž Kajdiž successfully performed at numerous concerts and has given several recitals, both home and abroad. He performed in Brezice Early Music Festival, Music Festivals Valvasors Evenings in Zagorje and Young Artist Under Vitranc in Kranjska Gora. He sang with Düsseldorf Simphonic orchestra, Holland Symfonia, Rotterdam Baroque Orchestra, Atheneum Kamerorkest with Blazers consort and conductors Toralf Hildebrandt, Nicolas Mansfield, Maarten Michielsen, Arjan Tien, Dirkjan Horringa, Jeremy Carnall, David Roblou, Bernard McDonald, Benjamin Bakker, Henrik Schaefer. In the organisation of Anton Phillip Zaal and Blue Bottle productions he performed Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni (Mozart Days in The Hague). He sang in the opera productions of De Nieuwe Opera Academie Amsterdam: in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas singing the role of The Sailor, in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro singing the part of Don Curzio, in Georges Bizet's Docteour Miracle the part of Dr. Miracle and in Francis Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmelites the role of L'Amonier. |
