The Finnish soprano and choral conductor, Katariina Järvinen, first studied piano at the Helsingin konservatoriossa (Conservatory in Helsinki), as well as church music at the Sibelius-Akatemiassa (Sibelius Academy), majoring in vocals (major teacher Anita Välkki). In 1997, she earned a master's degree in music and began the basic singing studies (major teacher Claudia Rüggeberg) at the Essen Folkwang College of Music in Germany, with an excellent performance of the Lied, then finished her studies with the highest artistic qualification.
Already at 18 years of age, Katariina Järvinen began singing in live concerts of Renaissance music, works of new music, and gave Lieder and church music concerts in her homeland but also in Germany and Sweden. She has gained Lieder singing experience by a strong co-operation with the pianist Michael Gees. During her singing studies, she sang at the opera choir of the Essen Opera House, the Aalto-Theatre, the Essen Philharmonic Chamber Choir, etc, as well as under Peter Ruzicka Essen directing the Esssen Philharmonic. She has premiered several works and performed in numerous operas; for example, the leading role in the Russian composer, Anna Ikramovan’s award-winning chamber opera, Der Schlafende Reiter. She recorded on DVD the leading role in same chamber opera with the Kassel Opera.
Katariina Järvinen has also appeared in several festivals, including the Third European Chamber Opera and Music Theatre Festival (6 Tage Oper) and Pentinkulma days as well as a soprano soloist with numerous orchestras. She is an award-winning Richard Wagner Society Scholarship. Currently, she serves as Kantorin at the Vaasan kirkon (Vaasa Church). She continues to give concerts both at home and abroad. She also serves as a music critic for the newspaper Pohjalainen. In spring 2008, appeared on the CD “Catherine I”, and in autumn 2009 the CD “Muistoja” (Memories) with sacred songs.
Her church music studies, vocal studies and leadership skills, has given Katariina Järvinen advantage in the directing of her choirs. She lectured on the use of sound and voice for for a number of singers, including in seminars. The Vaasa City employs her in the "Audio Tool" courses. She has given vocal training to numerous choirs in both Germany and Finland. |
