The Dutch-born English soprano, Kristina James, graduated from the Leeds College of Music (LCM) with Distinction at Degree and Postgraduate level in 2003. Whilst at LCM, she received awards for singing, opera, postgraduate study, outstanding performance and the Rotary Scholarship. Since graduating, she has enjoyed success at Yorkshire singing competitions.
Since graduating, Kristina James has toured throughout the UK and Ireland with Opus 1 Opera as Ines and chorus in Verdi's Il Trovatore, Shepherd Boy and chorus in Puccini's Tosca and chorus in La Boheme. She has also appeared as a member of the fairy chorus in Opera North's production of Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream and as 1st Witch and chorus in Skipton Camerata's production of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas. Her operatic roles at LCM included Susanna in the full production of W.A. Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, Pamina in The Magic Flute and Amahl in Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors.
Kristina James' recent concert and oratorio performances include W.A. Mozart's Vespers and Exsultate Jubilate, George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Israel in Egypt and Utrecht Te Deum, J.S. Bach's St John Passion (BWV 245), St Matthew Passion (BWV 244) and Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), Dvorak's Stabat Mater, Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah and Lauda Sion, Haydn's Nelson Mass, Stabat Mater and Theresa Mass, Francis Poulenc's Gloria and German's Merrie England with choirs such as Sheffield Bach Choir, Morley Music Society, St. Peter's Singers, Horsforth Choral Society, Overgate Hospice Choir, Otley Choral Society and the LCM Choral Society. She has also performed lunchtime recitals at Leeds City Art Gallery and Wakefield Theatre Royal.
As well as performing, Kristina James also teaches singing and musical theatre in Yorkshire, preparing children for Associated Board and London College of Music exams. She regularly runs workshops and summer schools, directs and choreographs small scale productions and coaches singers in school musicals. She co-directs a senior chamber choir as well as a primary choir. She also enjoys her regular performances with Ecclesia and St. Peter's Singers, both based in Leeds. |
