The Belgian conductor, composer, organist and harpsichordist, Benoît Jacquemin, atudied at the Institut de l’Enfant-Jésus, Nivelles, obtaining C.E.S.S. and Diploma of aptitude for higher education (1992). He contined his tidie at Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Bruxelles (CRMB), where he won First prize in music theory with distinction in the class of M. Colson (1992), First prize in harmony writing in the class of M. Dusart (1994), First prize in music history with distinction in the class of MM. Corten & Stockhem (1995), First prize in harmony practice in the class of M. Trekels (1995), Final Certificat in music analysis in the classe of M. Cappeletti, First prize in organ in the class of M. Ferrard (1996), 2nd prize in counterpoint in the class of M. Balthazar (1996), and obtained his diploma in norgan teaching (1998). At the Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Mons (CRMM) he won 1st prize in chamber music in the class of M. Van Waas (1997), anf obtained his higher diploma in chamber music in the class of M. Van Waas (2000). He ompleted his training by several organ courses, among others, with Jean Boyer, Felix Friedrich, Michel Bouvard, Pieter van Dijk, James Davis Christie, etc.
Benoît Jacquemin's interests have led him to research in the areas of analysis and the history of music, to play the organ and harpsichord recitals and to basso continuo practice on both instruments. These three areas are expressed alternatively at concerts as a soloist or in various formations ranging from duo to large orchestral and choral, ensembles and conferences and articles on subjects without continually diversified to suit his interests and curiosity. As a conductor, he co-directs the Chapelle des Minimes, which addresses for over 25 years all J.S. Bach's cantatas and related repertoire and the Orchestre Symphonique de Nivelles.
Benoît Jacquemin is Professor of organ and music history at the Académie de Musique de Molenbeek-Saint-Jean and Professor of composition and music history at the Académie d’Anderlecht. He is a lecturer in harmony practice at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles. He collaborates with Bozar Music and with the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, responsioble for introducing and concerts representations to the public.
Finally, as a composer, he already has to his credit several pieces for organ and piano; String Quartet (Hommage à Purcell), an extensive work in four movements, [remiered June 1, 2008. He is also the composer of a song cycle on poems by Dylan Thomas, Deaths and Entrances, which was premiered on February 24, 2010 at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles. |
