The Brazilian tenor, Daniel Issa (born: Daniel Gonçalves Issa), studied initially architecture at the University of São Paulo. After graduating, he dedicated himself to singing and studied with with Eiko Senda, Adelia Issa and Helly-Anne Karam. received his soloist diploma at the Schola Cantorum. He moved to Basel, Switzerland, to be accepted into the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, having been granted a scholarship Fundação Rapp and graduated with a soloist diploma in 2006. Through master-classes he received guidance from Hans Peter Blochwitz, Nicolau de Figueiredo, Marius van Altena, Julia Gooding, Andrew King (London), Sherman Lowe (Venice) and Margreet Honig. He continued his studies at the concert class of Peter Brechbuhler at the Musikhochschule Luzern and was a member of Schweizer Opernstudio at the Hochschule der Künste Bern.
Daniel Issa performs regularly in concert and opera. He performed roles in: H. Purcell's The Fairy Queen and W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro with Musique des Lumières and Opera Oblique, E. Jacquet de la Guerre's Céphale et Procris at the Festival Les Muséiques Basel, H. Purcell's Sweet Passion and Pain at Stadttheater Sursee, visitatio Sepulchri (a medieval Easter play of the 13th century from Tours) with Freunde Alter Musik Basel, Antonio Caldara's La Passione di Nostro Signor Gesù Cristo and J. Offenbach's Mesdames de la Halle at Volkshaus Biel and G. Orlandini's Il Marito Giocatore in the title role, with the Concerto de'Cavalieri at the Festivale di Musica Antica di Salerno. Recent projects include concerts in Nuremberg and Modena and soloist roles in Céphale et Procris by E. Jacquet de la Guerre in Markgräfliches Opernhaus in Bayreuth, Le Memorie Dolorose by J.H. Schmelzer, La Sonnambula by V. Bellinia and La Périchole by J. Offenbach in Biel-Solothurn Theater.He also performs contemporary works such as Un Tango pour Monsieur Lautrec by Jorge Zulueta at Festival Stand'été in Moutier or the opera Tod im St. Johann by Andreas Pflüger in Basel.
Daniel Issa os a member of the ensembles Musica Fiorita (Director: Daniela Dolci), Ensemble Turicum, Orlando Fribourg, Capella Obliqua, La Sestina, Perlaro and other directed by Ton Koopman, Anthony Rooley, Bruce Dickey, Luiz Alves da Silva, Facundo Agudin and Daniela Dolci. His activities as a concert singer have brought him to Latvia (oratorio Il Pianto e il Riso delle Quattro Stagioni by Benedetto Marcello), China (Renaissance program broadcast on Chinese state television), France, Italy, Germany and Spain. He performs a wide repertoire ranging from Monteverdi's Vespers and J.S. Bach's Passions to Igor Stravinsky's Les Noches.
Several CD recordings document his artistic work. Daniel Issa recorded in Brazil the CD "Canções Seculares" directed by Tiago Pinheiro, and in Switzerland the CD "Motecta 1572" with music of Tomás Luis de Victoria with the La Sestina ensemble, directed by Adriano Giardina. |
