L'Accademia degli Invaghiti ("Academy of Those who are Making Progress", "enchanted by knowledge and knowing in its broadest sense) was founded as a cultural institute and a hotbed for energetic and stimulating ideas. It was originally founded in Mantua by Cesare Gonzaga. Gli Invaghiti, in 1607, sponsored Orfeo by Monteverdi, a cornerstone of western music due to its perfect synthesis of music and speech and for its, at the time, avant-garde nature. On an initiative by Francesco Moi, the Accademia degli Invaghiti was formed in 1996 - a vocal and instrumental ensemble made up of some of the best musicians in Europe, based on the model of the original group. |
