The Swiss bass, Stephan [Stéphane] Imboden, began his musical training when he was 7 years old at the Schola des Petits Chanteurs de Sion. After studies of piano and oboe, he continued his studies at the Conservatoire de Lausanne in the class of Juliette Bise where he obtained diplomas of teaching and concert as 1st prize-winner of virtuosity with congratulations of the jury in 1987. He made his opera debut at the Opéra de Lyon, and at the same time attended master-classes by Eric Tappy. Further studies in the area of French Baroque music followed with René Jacobs and Rachel Yakar in Versailles (Paris).
Stephan Imboden's music and stage experience extends from Baroque music to contemporary music. He is invited as soloist for many concerts and operas in Switzerland, Europe and in Japan by leading conductors such as: Philippe Bender, Michel Corboz, Jesús López-Cobos, Gabriel Garrido, Martin Gester, René Jacobs, Armin Jordan, Louis Langrée, Jean-Claude Malgoire, John Nelson, Hervé Niquet, Andrew Parrott, Jersy Semkow, Tibor Varga, etc. His roles in the opera include in particular: Don Pedro in Béatrice et Bénédicte by H. Berlioz, Don Platone in Don Quichotte by G. Paisiello, Kecal in Die verkaufte Braut by F. Smetana, Collatinus in Viol de Lucrèce by Benjamin Britten, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte by W.A. Mozart, Créon in Médée by Charpentier, II Maestro di Capella by D. Cimarosa.
In 2002, Stephan Imboden performed the big works of the oratorio repertoire, such as Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) by J.S. Bach, Messiah by George Frideric Handel, Requiem by W.A. Mozart, and King Arthur by H. Purcell. In the opera, he appeared in Virtu Degli Strali Di Amore by F. Cavalli and in La Bohème de G. Puccini.
Stephan Imboden's artistic achievements are documented by several radio and TV programmes, as well as CD recordings, including works of J.S. Bach, Bassanni (Diapason d'Or), Johannes Brahms, Carissimi, Charpentier, Monteverdi, W.A. Mozart, Pendelton, Rameau, Camille Saint-Saëns, and Igor Stravinsky. |
