The German conductor and pianist, Alois Ickstadt, received his musical training at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main. After finishing his school studies, he participated in master-classes for piano with Erich Flinsch and studied composition with Kurt Hessenberg. He concluded his studies with Kapellmeister studies with Walter Davisson und Carl Maria Zwißler. His musical training was supplemented by studies of philosophy, German, and musicology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt am Main.
Already during his studies, Alois Ickstadt began various artistic activities as pianist and accompanist. He was engaged continuously with productions of contemporary music by the Hessischen Rundfunk and other German radio stations. By this way he was exposed and participated in first performances of modern music under the direction of Georg Solti, Pierre Boulez, Dean Dixon, Sixten Ehrling and other conductors. In the 1960's he began the co-operation with the Hessischen Rundfunk, from which developed the today's choral groups Figuralchor Frankfurt & Kinderchor Frankfurt, which he manages as artistic director. He has led the Figuralchor Frankfurt in numerous concerts, productions and recordings.
Apart from his conducting commitments, Alois Ickstadt is also active as accompanist of renowned singers. From 1970 to 1995 he was Professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main. |
